This morning I was reading a book on leadership when I came across a passage that resonated with me. It resonated because it was about choosing new leadership vs. choosing proven leadership; Something that we are challenged with in this country
I thought you guys might find this story interesting also;
When the Los Angeles Philharmonic, one of the most prestigious in the world, went looking for a new conductor, they had their pick of perhaps a thousand qualified individuals.
These were world-class people who had been tested and proved at doing the work of running an orchestra the traditional way.
They hired Gustavo Dudamel.
He is a twenty-six-year-old sensation from Venezuela whose resume can’t compare to those of his elder peers. He didn’t have the proven abilities at doing yesterday’s hard work.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic realized, though, that they could always find someone to get that work done. What they needed was a leader to bring the organization to a new audience in a new way.
Many Bahamians believe what the PLP and FNM have in Hubert Ingraham and Perry Christie are two leaders proven in running things the traditional way. Where as, to many, Branville McCartney represents new leadership who can look at old problems in a new way.
