The Family of Marco Archer reported him missing to the Police 5 hours after he went missing. They were told to come back in the morning. After canvasing the neighborhood they went back to the police station early saturday morning to make a report.
The Police did not check the cameras of the nearby gas station until Monday Morning!
I think the Police need to take a serious look at their policies when it comes to missing children. I can understand waiting 24-48 hrs for adults, but for children the response should be much quicker.
Watch the video below to hear the family describe the police response. Also note how they found out so many pedophiles lived in the area! Yes we do need a child molester registry! The sooner the better!
As I’m writing this I’m thinking of what the procedure could possibly look like;
- Identify and contact all relatives and neighbors or family friends the child might have gone with
- Canvas immediate surrounding areas for information
- Identify any CCTV equipment in the area and check it
- Find out if any molesters live in the area and investigate them first
- Circulate photo via social networks
All of this could be done within the first 6 hours after a missing child is reported.
The Canvasing of the neighborhood and making phone calls may be too much for Police manpower on short notice but these things can be done by volunteers or family members with the direction of 1 or 2 officers.
This is just a rough idea. I try to make this blog about solutions not just complaints. What do you think? Was enough done to Find Marco Archer? Was the police response Adequate?
