Are Bahamians Still Some of the most friendliest people on earth?
I’ve seen some behavior recently that has me questioning that statement. But then maybe we are friendly, just not to each other? Perhaps I’m using the wrong term. Its not friendliness I should be using. I think we have lost a alot of respect for others. We have become a selfish and niggerly people in some regards.
People no longer care that you might’ve worked hard and suffered for what you have, so they feel no remorse about stealling your car, breaking inot your house or robbing you of your hard earned valuables. They feel no remorse buying these stolen goods knowing that someone else had to have been hurt so they could save a few dollars on a particular item buy purchasing it on the streets.
We can see this lack of respect in so many daily activities. Most notably on our daily commutes in traffic. Let me share an experience I had this morning when I pulled into my work building.
Where I work the parking is not the best. The building is new and looks beautiful. People are always in and out of there on a daily basis, this usually means the parking lot is full. Unfortunately the parking is not the best, it seems little thought was given to the parking lot capacity and ease of use. as a result maneurvering is somewhat limited and it’s a difficult to drive.
So this morning I pull up to work and the parking lot is full as usual. Right away I can see cars are having difficulty maneuring. To my surprise the main problem was a car parked in the middle of the drive way idling. A lady was in the Car speaking on her cell phone, not giving a damn about how people were having problems maneurving around her vehicle.
I was hot immediately and leanned on my horn to let the driver know it. I pulled up along side and we had this brief conversation
Me: Please Move your vehicle
Her: Whats the problem?
Me: You have the drive way block up people can’t get around you.
Her: Soldier, I in to this
Me: I ain no soldier, you can see the parkin lot block up
Her: Call the police then
Me: I don’t have to call no police, you have sense to see whats happening, have some respect for other people.
Obviously this wasn’t going anywhere, because you can’t reason with Stupid. I parked in the employee parking lot. When I got inside I asked a police offer to please ask the lady to move her vehicle. The officer did so, and the lady reluctantly moved.
By the time I got upstairs and looked her car was gone, but in less than 10 minutes a blue s10 truck had taken her place…
