The Bahamas is rift with conflict of interest. So much so that people don’t seem to realize what it means or the implications.
Wikipedia defines Conflict of interest (COI)
A conflict of interest (COI) occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other. The presence of a conflict of interest is independent from the execution of impropriety.
The last sentence is important. Although there is conflict there is not necessarily any impropriety. However we must always be mindful of the potential for impropriety and guard against it by limiting all conflicts of interest.
In this video I discuss the Conflict of Interest that the PLP has with The Bahamas Petroleum Company that is searching for Oil In The Bahamas.
- PLP Candidate Jerome Gomez is A BPC Manager
- Davis & Co. Are BPC’s Lawyers
- Leader of the PLP Perry Christie has consulted on BPC for Davis & Co.
This represents such a huge conflict of interest that it is unthinkable to me that these gentlemen see nothing wrong with this. But such is the case in this country.
If the PLP wins the next general election, will these gentlemen then negotiate with themselves on behalf of BPC? And Whose interest will they be protecting?
Did their position as potential leaders of the next government of The Bahamas have anything to do with them being hired by the company?
The vast sums of money involved and this situation makes me very uncomfortable. The potential for impropriety is incredible great.
Do you think this presents a conflict of interest and what do you think has to be done about it?
