The PLP reclaimed the government of The Bahamas by emphatically defeating the FNM on May 7th.
Most astonishing to me and everyone in The Bahamas was how close Mr. Ingraham came to losing his own seat. It is almost unheard of for a leader of a party to be challenged, much less to almost lose.
To me it was a clear and resounding rejection of Mr. Ingraham’s policies, attitude and behavior as leader.
At this time it is predicted that the PLP will carry 27 of the 38 seats in a landslide victory, pending recounts and verification by officials.
The victory was the easy part.
It is now time to Perform
Bahamians are no longer voting for non performing governments. Either you perform or you are voted out. It happened to the PLP in 2007 and now to the FNM in 2012.
Its is not enough to say, the economy is doing well so we will win. If your government plagued by slackness and corruption you will be voted out. The PLP learned that lesson in 2007.
It is not enough to point to global problems as the reason for your failures, grossly overspend on government projects, while not taking into account the suffering of the average man. And having an arrogant attitude with it. The FNM learned that lesson on May 7th.
It will not be easy for the new Government of The Bahamas. There are complex issues that need to be addressed
- National Debt
- Oil Exploration
- Many more
I am expecting this government to perform. Plain and Simple.
I will not support any form of victimization and pettiness. Plenty promises were made and I know that all will not be possible, simply based on the economy.
Crime will not decrease overnight, Jobs will not materialize out of thin air. There is alot of work to be done.
I am hoping this government succeeds in its plans because if they don’t this country will suffer greatly.
My message to the new government of The Bahamas is congratulations on your victory, but time for talking is over, it is now time to perform.
We will be watching.
