The numbers row has been heating up recently. Parties on both sides of the issue have drawn lines in the sand.
The gambling houses have pledged to spend millions in an effort to educate people on the issue.
High powered pastors have come out and in no uncertain terms have condemned the numbers industry. Debates have been raging in all corners of society. Scandals have erupted.
Pastors have been publicly “called out” for meeting with the number men. Which is interesting to me considering no one has called out Pastor Randy Frazer who was convicted of having sex with a minor, not to my knowledge anyway.
I took to the straight talk community on Facebook to find out what people thought about it.
I asked the following question
If the referendum was held today how would you vote? yea/nay
Results: 16 – Yea to 3 –
One person said “Yes, Tax it and improve the education system”
Which is pretty much where i stand on the issue. We know it’s happening, we know it can’t be policed. So lets tax it and use the money for a worthy cause.
There are many arguments for and against but this is what it boils down to for me.
For me gambling is in the same category as alcohol; an enjoyable activity for many that can become a major problem if abused.
So instead of repeating the mistakes of prohibition, we need to educate people to the dangers of compulsive gambling and how to avoid them.
Just my 2 cents.
If the Referendum was held today, how would you vote?
