Many persons expressed sentiments that perhaps now that crime has reached out and touched the supposedly untouchable it will be taken seriously.
Questions Raised By This Incident
Questions have been raised about the lackadaisical attitude we have toward security in this country.
How could armed men just drive up to the gate of the head of our government and hold him at gun point then escape unmolested?
Where were the armed security officers protecting the DPM?
Criminals Have Become Bolder
There was a time when tourists were untouchable, we know that is no longer the case.
There was a time when the church was untouchable, we know that is no longer the case.
There was a time when families were safe from harm, sorry that is no longer the case.
There was a time when a certain class of people were safe,
Yesterday it would’ve been unthinkable that anyone in government, most certainly the DPM and The PM, would be a target. Today we know that is no longer the case.
Criminals Have Sent A Clear Message
The criminal element have emphatically declared that no one is safe in this country.
This incident sends a clear message to the police: we are not afraid of you.
To The Government: you are not in charge of this country.
To the international community: The Bahamas is lawless and teetering on the verge of chaos.
How will we respond?
5 or 10 years from now this incident will mark the day the powers that be got serious about the fight against criminals or the day that we lost control of our country and the descent into chaos began in earnest.
How The Government and The People of The Bahamas respond will determine our future.
