They say a photo says a thousand words. So rather than write about what the problem is in our country, I thought I’d show you. Here are three photos that illustrate one of our main problems perfectly;
Photo 1 – Accountability and Transparency Protest in Rawson Square
Photo 2 – “Violence against Women Not Funny” awareness initiative held in Rawson Square.
Photo 3 – Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival
In a country where 45% of murders are as a result of domestic violence and there are 1200 abuse cases yearly we couldn’t get more than a handful of people to protest the insensitive remarks of MP Leslie Miller.
In a country with numerous incidents of impropriety by the government and it’s agencies we couldn’t get a dozen people to protest on behalf of Accountability and Transparency by Government.
However, a weekend party draws thousands.
Until Bahamians start focusing on what’s important, standing up to the powers that be and demanding better governance things will continue as they are.
The only ones we have to blame are ourselves.
