On New Years Eve URCA released its Statement of Results and Final Decision on Cable Bahamas’ application for increase in basic television services.
Summary of URCAs Final Decision
Having reviewed CBL’s application and considered the comments and representations submitted in response to URCA’s consultation as set out in Section 2, URCA has decided that CBL may implement the new prices as set out below:
- $38 per month for the REVTV Prime service (ie, residential customers); and
- $64 per month for the equivalent service for commercial customers (ie REVTV Business Prime).
URCA agrees that CBL may implement the new prices in those geographic areas where CBL has a two way digital cable network only, namely: New Providence, Abaco, Grand Bahama, and Parts of Eleuthera. This is because the new Prime Local service will also be offered in these areas. For the elimination of doubt, CBL shall not implement the new prices in any area in The Bahamas where CBL has not also launched the proposed new USO pay T service. In addition, any further implementation by CBL of the REVTV Prime package in any new areas will require a new application and URCA’s further approval.
Prime Local Service Application (CBL Universal Service Obligation)
Having reviewed CBL’s application for the introduction of the proposed USO package, REVTV Prime Local and considered the comments and representation submitted in response to URCA’s consultation as set out in Section 2, URCA hereby confirms that CBL’s proposed USO package belongs in the identifiable SMP market for cable TV services in The Bahamas.

Straight Talk Thoughts;
One of the conditions of Cable Bahamas getting approval to increase the price of it’s packages was to offer a basic affordable package which is the Prime Local offering above.
But as we can see the offering is pretty anemic. I recommend Cable Bahamas think hard about adding in some local Florida affiliates of NBC, ABC and CBS. Otherwise they may see more people abandoning the service for alternatives that offer more value.
Boy I tell ya, Cost of everything keeps going up except ya salary.
