Its the NBA finals. Lebron’s team lost game 1 against the Spurs. At the press conference, a reporter asks him a question;
Reporter: Lebron, what adjustments your team needs to make in order to contain Tony Parker and win game two?
Lebron: Well we have to keep it close, play better defense, fight over screens and crash the boards. But those guys have been playing together for so long they just know the system and know each other, we’re just not on that level as a team, I don’t know if we’ll be able to do it. So I don’t see us winning this game or series.
No this is not a sports blog and yes that is a fictional story.
So whats the point of this story? The point is You do not speak defeat before you engage in the contest.
It gives your opponent confidence and while undercutting your teams confidence and resolve. All but guaranteeing defeat for your side and victory for your opponents.
So no one would ever say something like this… Ever! Even if it is True! And not just in a sporting context but any situation.
Except in The Bahamas!
Every Bahamian Has To Stop Saying This Phrase If We Really Want Change
It irks me every time I hear it, So I’m finally writing about it because it has to stop!
You hear this ALL the time in The Bahamas. Just listen to the talk shows, even the hosts says it.
They will lay out whats wrong maybe even talk about what needs to change and then follow it up with, ” but aint nothing ga change”
Look, We have some deeply entrenched problems in this country, yes people are slow to embrace change and yes our government is not responsive.
But when you complain about a problem, demand change and then follow it up with “but aint nothing ga change”, you admit defeat. You give the politician/goverment license to shit all over us like they’ve been doing for decades.
They know you will accept nothing changing (defeat) because you have already spoken it.
But you know whats worst than you accepting defeat? Its that you also pull the life out of your fellow citizens, your team mates. Those who may be willing to go the extra mile to hold the government accountable.
This is one reason why so many Bahamians sit down, complain about issues and never do anything about it… because in their minds they have already lost.
So if you have been guilty of this in the past or have heard others say this, please share this article.

- A MP Code of Conduct
- Accountability & Transparency in Government
Say it with me;
WE ARE AGAINST THE SLACKNESS & CORRUPTION OF CURRENT AND PAST GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATIONS AND WE DEMAND CHANGE!
Feels good don’t it?
